Flight instructor
As a pilot, who hasn't dream of being in command of a supersonic aircraft or simply in control of a seaplane in the Canadian arctic?
A lot of pilots which start in the aeronautical sector have met these lucky pilots that make a job out of their passion. If you pay attention when they talk, they show great enthusiasm and have tons of tales to share. But how did they get there?
Sometimes the way is short, regular, without ordeals, but more often it is long, irregular with a lot of unexpected events. But still, they all succeeded. What the story is not telling is about those who haven't got the guts, the courage, the tenacity, the will and the passion. Why are there so few pilots when there are so many candidates? One thing is sure: you will need hard determination and work to get to the summit.
At the moment, to acquire the experience needed to become an airline pilot or to work as co-pilot in a smaller twin engine aircraft, you are only a few possibilities: find a season dependant job such as fire patrols, paradrops, towing of advertising streamers, aerial photography and, last but not the least, becoming a FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR!
This possibility is very interesting for many reasons.
In fact, by teaching to others, we learn ourselves, we also master the flying techniques even more and, therefore, we take a lot of self-confidance. It also contributes to gain flight hours all year long and to meet people during navigation to be known across the country. With time, you might also have the possibility to teach on multi-engine which has a significant impact on your career. For a company, hiring a flight instructor is to hire a pilot which is comfortable with being seated either left or right in the cockpit, that is accurate with emergency procedures since he is teaching them and a pilot that has conserved his competency.
Don't forget that you need 1500 flight hours in order to become an airline pilot, so this can't be done quickly.
