Licence conversion - ICAO to Canadian

To convert a "Private pilot" licence from a country member of the ICAO, there is nothing simpler. Her are the procedures:

  • Have a licence and a valid medical certificate
  • Certify all flight hours by a qualified instructor (the signature is not enough : you need the school stamp as well)
  • Make a copy of the layout for a 150 NM navigation with 2 stopovers on an aeronautical chart along with a copy of the page in your logbook identifying airports and flight times.
  • Write a small examination, called PSTAR, based on the Canadian regulation.

You can find a copy of the exam on the following link: PSTAR (TP11919). Call or send us an email...

To convert a professional licence and an IFR rating from a country member of the ICAO, the flight experience (flight time) is recognized but it is still required to pass a written examination and a flight test after having converted the private licence as described above.

For the other ratings, such as night, multi-engine and seaplane, the flight time will be recognized if you meet the minimum required by Transport Canada, see the Canadian Aviation Regulations - RAC (Part IV).

For people wishing to start their ground school or to train themselves for the PSTAR in order to prepare their arrival, you may consult the AIM and the RAC.

For any questions, do not hesitate to contact Éric Raissac. We can meet you in one of our offices in St-Hubert or St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu.
